Owenby Law, P.A. - Children
In this video, Joy Owenby discusses how animosity in divorce cases will almost always find both parties battling for more time with their children. Under Florida law, these cases are determined by looking at which parent has the child’s best interests at heart. Joy recommends going to Flsenate.gov to learn more about the intricacies of Florida divorce law, so you can better prepare yourself to build your case. She reminds parties going through a divorce to consider questions like who will allow the most frequent contact with the child, who has been primarily caring for the child up to this point, and what are the child’s wishes? At Owenby Law, P.A., our goal is not to break up your family, but to make sure your family comes out of this as unscathed as possible.

Adoption Owenby
In this video, Joy Owenby talks about the kind of adoption law we practice at Owenby Law, P.A. Specifically, she discusses how most cases we deal with are “uncontested adoptions” in which families that have already been together for some time file adoption paperwork for a step-child. We preside over uncontested adoptions for adults as well, And Joy discusses how, in the state of Florida, the rights of a parent may be terminated by consent in cases where the child is over 18, or the parent decides to give up their rights. They may also be terminated by default, in cases where one parent doesn’t respond or doesn’t come to court, or in cases where a parent is guilty of neglect, abuse, or abandonment.
