Let’s talk about two common injuries from car accidents. I’m Brian Brijbag. I’m a car accident and injury attorney in the state of Florida. There are two injuries that a lot of people don’t understand that are very common from car accidents. The first injury is herniated or bulging discs. And the way I think of them is these discs are what rest in your spine between your vertebrae and it’s kind of like a little disc. And what happens is when you’re injured sometimes these discs are like a jelly doughnut. They get squeezed the wrong way and the jelly from the doughnut kind of leaks out and it can put pressure on the spinal cord. It can cause pain. It can cause what are called radicular symptoms, where you might feel pain, tingling, numbness, shooting pain down your arms or legs and it can cause some real serious problems. And a lot of people wind up having spinal surgery, spinal fusion discectomies because of these sorts of injuries. And they’re very common in car accidents. And another injury that is common in car accidents and really wasn’t getting spotted and recognized until a lot more recently and a lot of people are becoming more aware of them are brain injuries. And what we’re talking about are concussions and mild traumatic brain injuries and traumatic brain injuries overall. And as a society, we’ve gotten better at recognizing brain injury and recognizing even a minimal injury can have lifelong impact on a person and can really change the course of your life. And you know, a lot of that is coming out of our studies through the NFL and through sports injuries. But even a mild concussion can cause long-term side effects. So it’s important to be aware of these two very common injuries, and I’m telling you this because a lot of people don’t understand about these types of injuries and I deal with this stuff every day. If you’ve been in an accident, you have claims that you’ve been injured. Part of those claims might be that you’re not able to work or you’re suffering injuries or disability. And this is where social media can have a significant impact – a negative impact. What you post on social media can be twisted and used against you and you want to be careful about that. If you’re claiming that you have significant injuries and there’s posts on Instagram or on Facebook of you engaged in activities – maybe you’re swimming from a rope swing, you know maybe you’re skydiving. Maybe you’re doing whatever it is you’re doing, playing golf. Any of these types of images can affect your case in a negative way. And even if it’s not true, it could be used against you. I mean, it could be a picture that’s two years old. But it raises a question mark. And even if it doesn’t come in at trial, it could still affect your settlement prospects. I’m telling you this because social media and Facebook, Instagram, are having an impact more and more and more.
