At PGP, I prosecuted medical malpractice, products liability, and wrongful death/ personal injury cases. I served as second chair in a construction negligence trial (resulting in a record-breaking $5.97m verdict in DeKalb County) as well as two medical malpractice trials, taken over four dozen fact/opinion depositions, written numerous dispositive motions and/or responses, successfully argued contested motions on issues of law and fact, and assisted with an appeal involving a pharmacist’s duty to warn in Illinois and another involving an insurer’s duty to defend a negligent entrustment claim. Additionally, I was responsible for reviewing incoming medical malpractice cases for merit with both the partners in our firm as well as with consulting physicians.

Pfaff, Gill & Ports, Ltd.
After taking the Illinois bar examination, I worked as a law clerk at Pfaff, Gill & Ports. In the three-month time period before I was sworn in, I assisted with writing an appeal to the First District resulting in a published opinion and successful outcome on a duty to defend case, see AACC v. Novit et al., 2018 IL App (1st) 171048 (PLA denied September 26, 2018) as well as assisted a partner's two-week medical malpractice trial in Peoria County, Illinois. I also wrote a post-trial motion for a new trial, two summary judgment responses, and five other dispositive motions and/or responses.

Power Rogers & Smith, LLP
During my time at Power Rogers & Smith, I wrote one response to a petition for leave to appeal to the Illinois Supreme Court, five appeals to the First Judicial District- four of which resulted in published opinions, see Freeman v. City of Chicago, 2017 IL App (1st) 153644 (appellee); Douglas v. Arlington Park Racecourse, 2018 IL App (1st) 162962 (appellee); McChristian v. Brink, 2016 IL App (1st) 152674 (appellant); and Vines v. Village of Flossmoor, 2017 IL App (1st) 163339 (appellant)- and a response to a petition for leave to appeal to the First Judicial District. I’ve also written two post-trial motions arguing for a new trial after a defense verdict, both of which were granted by the respective trial judge Circuit Court of Cook County. I’ve also drafted eighteen other responses to motions to dismiss and/or motions for summary judgment as well as over fifty motions in limine related to seven civil jury trials, one of which sat in the Northern District of Illinois, that were set to be tried during my time at PRS.

As a Research Assistant for Professor James T. Gathii, I was responsible for performing legal research germane to international human rights and trade law and preparing case studies highlighting various impacts that international law has on law and policy in Africa as well as its relationship with the WTO legal system. Additionally, I canvassed law articles relating to Third World Approaches to International Law for their merits and relevancy and edited citations for the Professor’s present publications. I also provided summaries for the Professor’s various Addresses and Conference Speaking Notes.

As a Law Clerk, I was responsible for developing medical chronology summaries, conducting legal research and preparing legal memoranda. I also attended settlement negotiations, trials, and depositions, as well as assisted with conducting new client intake phone interviews by evaluating the merits of a potential case and presenting findings to supervising attorney for review.
