The Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus Test - the NHTSA horizontal gaze eye movement test
Field sobriety tests DO NOT prove or disprove sobriety. Field sobriety tests also do not prove driving impairment. Always REFUSE this roadside testing by police at a DUI checkpoint. The walk and turn, horizontal gaze nystagmus (HGN) evaluation (the eye test), and the one leg stand (OLS) evaluation are all optional, voluntary, and should never be attempted by you at the roadside, in an effort to avoid an arrest for DUI-DWI. No loss of driving privilege accompanies refusing to take these non-scientific tests. These evaluations are not done by police officers correctly, even in this training video used in Georgia, and are subjectively graded.
