How to Divide Property in a North Carolina Divorce
In today's episode, I discuss the property way to divide property if you are in the midst of a separation in North Carolina. It is not always as easy and dividing everything in half. You must consider the type of asset, as well as the tax implications of taking that asset, before you decide who gets the house and the retirement accounts.

Today's question was sent to me by Derek Parrish, an Edward Jones Financial Advisor in Durham, North Carolina.

How to Get a Divorce in North Carolina
In today's video I share the legal requirements to obtain a divorce in North Carolina. The divorce laws in North Carolina are different than in many other states and here you must be physically separated for at least one year before you can apply for a divorce.

However, you must make sure to properly preserve your claims for alimony and equitable distribution before the divorce goes final or risk losing those claims forever.

At the end of the video I discuss unbundled legal services and how we are working with people who have a limited budget for legal services to get the legal help they need with their family law case.

For more on how unbundled services can save you $1,000's on your legal bill, visit this video: https://youtu.be/5ZYSjNftVzo

How Unbundled Legal Services Can Save You $1,000's on Your Divorce
In today's video I wanted to share with you a dirty little secret of family law cases. If you use a lawyer for unbundled services, also known as "limited scope" representation, you can save $1,000's on your legal bill if you are going through a separation or divorce.

Here is a link to a blog post I wrote that talks more about this: https://jameshartlaw.com/divorce-general/introducing-unbundled-legal-services-for-family-law-clients/

In today's Ask a Lawyer Show, we discuss the following questions:

1. What to do if your ex is stalking you? How do you protect yourself?
2. What if you decided to handle your own separation agreement and you left out some property... like a house? What do you do?
3. What if you get into an accident while riding in an Uber?

Great stuff this week - Enjoy!
