Steve Barns is a founding partner and leads the firm’s materials science and nanotechnology efforts. His practice encompasses intellectual property management including strategy formulation, invention review, maintenance, and all phases of U.S. and international patent prosecution. Steve has worked as a patent examiner in the fields of optical communications, waveguides, and lasers and in full service patent law firms. Prior to founding Miller & Barns, Steve worked as senior counsel in a Fortune 500 company and was responsible for all intellectual property matters for a multibillion-dollar materials manufacturing division. Steve has significant experience before the European Patent Office and various European courts. He specializes in non-infringement, validity, and right-to-use opinions and has successfully counseled clients on designing around asserted patents.
