Attorney Debra A. Matherne, a Workers' Compensation Specialist at Michael J. O'Connor & Associates talks about what you should do after you have suffered a work injury. Email: info@oconnorlaw.com Phone: 1-800-518-4529
One of the biggest mistakes that a person can make after they've sustained a work related injury is to fail or to delay in providing notice to their employer that they've had that work related injury.
Providing notice is required of the Pennsylvania workers' compensation act and you must not only report it to not just a coworker or someone who's beside you, you must actually go report that injury to someone who is in a position of authority, such as a supervisor or a HR manager in human resources.
It's not enough just to say that you are having pain or "my back hurts." You have to specifically indicate that you have a problem, what that physical problem is, and that you believe it is related to your work duties or a specific work related accident or injury or event that occurred.
Notice must be provided within 120 days or you may never be able to file a workers compensation claim. So, it is a big mistake if you are worried, often people say to me they're worried about reporting it to the employer, they're worried they might be fired or laid off or there may be some repercussion if they dare to report a work related injury.
Our attorneys have over 20 years of experience to help guide you through the complicated workers' compensation process so that you do the right thing.

"I have over 20 years experience as an attorney most of which has been practicing workers' compensation law, and I feel that that is the area of law that I most prefer to practice. I believe that people deserve caring, competent representation and I believe that I can provide that to people in workers' compensations. It's often that a client will call to say "One of the things I like about your firm the best is that I'm able to not only speak with you, but I'm able to speak with the paralegals, I'm able to speak with the other staff and everyone there is so helpful, that has made me feel so comfortable in their workers' compensation case."
